United States Postal Service services and contact
The United States Postal Service (USPS) handles postal delivery and related mail-management services. Choose a service based on whether you are following a mailing, moving, or temporarily away from an address. Keep the relevant tracking or request confirmation number for follow-up.
Where do I check a USPS package that has not updated?
Use the USPS tracking guide for the latest scan and the meaning of common delivery messages. The sender’s shipping confirmation or postal receipt is the starting point for finding the tracking number. A scan history and a delivery estimate provide different information.
For a delayed or missing mailing, the USPS Missing Mail page routes customers to tracking, a help request, or a search according to the mailing’s circumstances. A search and an insurance claim have different purposes. Choose the help route for the actual mail service rather than assuming every delayed item uses the same claim process.
How do I transfer my mail to a new address?
Use change-of-address guidance when mail needs to follow a move. Select the correct individual, family, or business request and keep its confirmation. Tell important senders about the new address directly so future mail is addressed correctly.
USPS forwarding concerns postal delivery. Updating an agency record, such as a tax or immigration address, is a separate task with that agency. The confirmation of a forwarding order does not establish that another organization has changed its records.
Which service holds mail while I am away?
Use Hold Mail guidance for a temporary pause in delivery at the current address. Forwarding and holding serve different situations. The Hold Mail page explains eligible dates, account access, and what happens to accumulated mail at the end of the hold.

How do I contact USPS about delivery or an online account?
Open Contact USPS in the service list. Its online help route asks about the issue, and its contact categories separate customer care, technical support, tracking, and Informed Delivery. Choose the delivery category for a mailing problem and technical support for a USPS.com service problem.
Use Find a Post Office from that contact page for the location’s contact information and hours. Opening hours vary by facility. Check the local listing and postal holidays before planning a visit rather than treating general customer-care availability as a local counter schedule.
What you can do at USPS
Enter a USPS tracking number to see mailing progress, delivery attempts, and available next steps. Tracking does not guarantee a delivery time.
Submit a USPS change of address to forward eligible mail. Update government agencies and other senders separately.
Use USPS Hold Mail to pause delivery to an address for 3-30 days while you are away.

FAQ
Is a change of address the same as Hold Mail?
A change of address forwards eligible mail after a move. Hold Mail temporarily pauses delivery at the current address.
Does a tracking update submit a missing-mail search?
Viewing tracking is separate from requesting help or starting a missing-mail search.
