Am I eligible? — 5-question self-check

Answer five questions to see whether you likely qualify and what is missing.

Q1. Were you insured (employment insurance) for 180+ days in the 18 months before leaving?

About 7–8 months of a 5-day week; paid weekly holidays count.

Q2. Was the separation involuntary? (contract end, advised resignation, dismissal, layoff, closure)

Voluntary resignation is excluded unless justified (next question).

Q3. If voluntary, was there a justified reason? (2+ months unpaid wages, below minimum wage, workplace harassment, illness with medical opinion, 3+ hour commute, relocation, family care, retirement age)

You must prove it with documents.

Q4. Are you able and willing to work and to look for a job now?

If not (illness, childbirth), file to defer the benefit period.

Q5. Is it within 12 months since you left?

The benefit window is 12 months from the day after separation.
