U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services tools and contact
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provides immigration benefit application services, case tools, and naturalization filing. Choose the form for the benefit you need, or use the receipt-based tools to follow a case already submitted.
How do I see my case on USCIS?
Use Case Status Online guidance when you have a USCIS receipt number. It explains the recorded case action and the distinction between that receipt number and other immigration identifiers. Your online account also provides case services when a case is available there.
A case status is a recorded update. It does not show a live view of an officer working on the file. For a timing question, use processing times and the applicable inquiry-date tool. There is no single current wait time that applies to every USCIS form, category, and office.
Which USCIS form handles my application?
| Task | Where to start | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Follow an existing case | USCIS case status | Read recorded activity using a receipt number |
| Renew an expiring 10-year Green Card | Form I-90 guidance | Renew evidence of permanent resident status |
| Apply for citizenship through naturalization | Form N-400 guidance | Apply under an eligible naturalization category |
Each form page links to current editions, evidence requirements, filing options, and payment instructions. Use the N-400 page’s Direct Filing Addresses link for a mailed naturalization application. For an expiring conditional Green Card, check the removal-of-conditions route before selecting a form.
Who helps with a USCIS online account problem?
The Contact Center page links to technical help for account setup, sign-in, passcodes, uploads, and online payment issues. It also explains adding eligible paper-filed cases to an account. Choose the technical-help route when access to the account is the problem.
Keep your mailing address current with USCIS through its address-change service or online account. An account problem, a missing case notice, and a move require different assistance routes; the Contact Center page identifies the appropriate online tools.

Can I call USCIS to check my status?
The Contact Center number is 800-375-5283, with TTY at 800-767-1833. Automated general help is available around the clock. Live calls and chats operate Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
USCIS directs routine status questions to Case Status Online or the online account. For case-specific live assistance, privacy rules limit who may receive information. Have the relevant receipt notice and, if available, the application copy ready. The Contact Center page also explains requests for in-person services when online, phone, or mail assistance cannot meet the need.

FAQ
Is a processing-time estimate a decision on my case?
No. Use the recorded case status and any notices for your individual case, and processing times for the relevant timing and inquiry guidance.
Where should I start if I need a current form?
Open the USCIS page for that specific form to find its current edition and filing instructions.
