TSA PreCheck application and enrollment

Start a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck application with an authorized enrollment provider, then finish the required in-person visit. Online pre-enrollment alone does not complete enrollment. After approval, add your Known Traveler Number (KTN) to airline reservations.

Where do I apply for TSA PreCheck?

TSA lists three authorized enrollment providers: CLEAR, IDEMIA, and Telos. Choose from their TSA-linked enrollment services and compare a location you can actually visit. Availability, hours, and appointment options differ.

The current new-enrollment prices shown by TSA are $84.95 for CLEAR, $79.75 for IDEMIA, and $85 for Telos. These cover the PreCheck enrollment product. A separate membership bundle sold by a provider can have its own price and terms.

What documents do I need for TSA PreCheck?

Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or lawful permanent residents. Bring an original or certified identity/citizenship document accepted by TSA. Names must match the application, with original or certified legal name-change evidence when needed.

One current U.S. passport book or card is an accepted List A option. A permanent resident card is another. If you have no List A document, use the required combination of a valid photo ID and citizenship evidence from List B. An expired passport cannot stand alone as a List A document.

Read the current required-identification page for your document combination. A standard identity card is not automatically proof of citizenship, and a name mismatch can leave an otherwise complete application unfinished.

What happens at the TSA PreCheck appointment?

Complete the provider’s online pre-enrollment and arrange an appointment or use its walk-in service where offered. Bring the required documents and payment to the enrollment location. Staff review your documents and collect fingerprints and a photo.

Keep the provider confirmation. If you have already enrolled, use that provider’s status or support route rather than creating another paid new-enrollment application.

What is the fastest way to get approved for TSA PreCheck?

Finish every required enrollment step and supply the correct documents. A short enrollment visit and the later application review are different periods. A same-day walk-in does not promise same-day approval.

CLEAR’s TSA enrollment page describes many KTNs arriving within three to five days, with some applications taking up to 60 days. Use the instructions for the provider that accepted your application; do not plan a trip around another applicant’s result.

How do I check TSA PreCheck application status?

Return to the enrollment provider you used and follow its status instructions. Keep the application confirmation and identifying information it requests. TSA directs enrollment-specific questions to the provider handling that enrollment.

Once approved, enter the KTN in airline reservations and travel profiles. Check that the passenger information matches the enrollment record. Approval and adding the number to a booking are separate steps.

Should I choose TSA PreCheck or Global Entry?

TSA PreCheck is an airport security-screening program. Global Entry is a CBP program for entry into the United States and can include TSA PreCheck benefits for eligible members. Compare the enrollment requirements with the kind of travel you need to support.

If you already have a PreCheck membership, use the renewal route instead of paying for a first-time application. Renewal fees and available methods differ from initial enrollment.

FAQ

Is filling out the online application enough?

No. New applicants must complete the enrollment visit and application review.

Does TSA PreCheck guarantee the lane on every trip?

No traveler is guaranteed expedited screening. Check the boarding pass for the TSA PreCheck indicator.
